What is family mediation?

It’s a voluntary and confidential process where a neutral mediator helps you resolve issues like separation, parenting, finances, and property – without going to court.

What does a mediator do?

The mediator guides the conversation, ensures fairness, keeps things on track, and helps you both explore workable solutions – but never takes sides or directly advises you.

Do I have to be in the same room as my ex?

No. We offer the possibility of you being in separate spaces (sometimes known as shuttle mediation ), both online and in person, so you can take part without any direct contact if you prefer.

Is mediation suitable for everyone?

Most people can benefit from mediation, but it’s not right for every situation – for example where there are safeguarding concerns. We’ll assess this at your initial meeting.

How long does mediation take?

Every case is different, but most clients need between 2–4 sessions. We’ll always work at a pace that suits your situation and never keep you for longer than is needed.

How much does mediation cost?

It’s usually much more affordable than going to court. We offer clear, upfront pricing and can explain costs during your MIAM.

Is mediation legally binding?

Not automatically. Agreements can be written up into a Memorandum of Understanding and later turned into a Consent Order by a solicitor or court.

What’s a MIAM and do I need one?

A MIAM (Mediation Information and Assessment Meeting) is your first step. It’s a confidential, one-to-one meeting where you get to tell your story from your perspective. We explain the process, explore your options and check if mediation is suitable.
